The language of a 2 year old

I needed a place to write down some of the words that my 2 year old says--or tries to say. I am amazed at how he is learning to communicate with me. It is fascinating. He is jibber-jabbering all the time. And he will, often, try to repeat the last 2 or 3 words we say. So, since I cannot seem to keep track of all the milestones he has met and get everything scrapbooked--I will just jot a few things here, if you don't mind.
On Colors
When he sees the color red--he doesn't say red--he says "Elmo".
When he sees the color orange--he doesn't say orange--he says "Elmo's nose".
When he sees the color blue--he says "boo" or "Cookie Monser".
When he sees the color green--he says "geem".
When he sees the color brown--he says "mown".
When he sees the color purple--he says "Nanny's color".
On Numbers
When his daddy starts counting at number 1--he will say 2(and if daddy continues with 3, he will say 4 and keep it going until they get to 10). For 4, he says "fours" and it is adorable.
On Himself
He calls himself "baby" most all of the time. But, when I ask him what his name is he says "Wim Cot Eef". I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT!!!!
On Eating
He lives on "ciral" which is cereal. Also, he loves "Ms" or "MMs" which we all know is M&Ms and his Nanny readily supplies them. He says "toast" for bread of almost any kind.
On Personal Hygiene
He loves to take a bath--and that bath must me filled with "bubbes".
He tells me I need to "ceam up" when his diaper is dirty. He will also say that he needs "medsin" sometimes on red spots anywhere on him or on his "booboos".
On Animals
He loves to see animals, pet animals, talk about animals, read about animals, etc. His Nanny has a cat. He says "sissy"--which is for Whiskers and also for his sister. He loves to go see the "quackquacks" with MaMa. A cow says "boo".
On Questions and Observations
He constantly says "dat" for what's that. He also wants us to "otch baby" which is to watch the baby do something.
On Family
He calls me "mama" and Bill "daddy". He calls his sister "sissy". He calls my mom "Nanny" and Bill's mom "MaMa". He calls my sister "Mamy" and Bill's brother "BevBev" which is how he has translated "TevTev"--which is what Savannah calls him. He calls Bill's dad "Paw". We are still working on Miss Joanne.
On the Bible
He is constantly wanting me to sing Jesus Loves Me. He will say "Hesus love me too!" We do hand movements and everything. He also says "B-I-B-E" which is supposed to be B-I-B-L-E so I will sing that song to him. At the end, he will say "Bible yay". Precious. We hold hands when we are praying before meals and at bedtime. The other night at supper, when Bill finished the prayer and said amen--he said "Amen mama".

  1. That is just Toooo Sweet. I would love so much to be there to play with him and hear what he has to say. I hope that at some point you will be able to put together some some sort of video, and send it to Amy and I so that we will be able to watch and hear him. Great blog Sis keep up the good work. Dave
